Built on the site of a former convent, this 3,000 m2 media library is the first in France to offer a place for digital experimentation, a collaborative workspace and adapted collections (tactile and Braille books).

Over the centuries, the site has housed a convent, a theater and shops, before being purchased in 2002 by the Communauté du Pays d?Aix. After more than three years of work, the media library was inaugurated on September 8, 2017, welcoming more than 3,000 visitors for the occasion. Spread over more than 3,000 m², this new cultural hub in the Val de Durance, intended for more than 50,000 inhabitants, is the first media library in France to offer a place for digital experimentation, a collaborative workspace and adapted collections (tactile and Braille books).
The Médiathèque les Carmes is a cultural establishment of the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, located in the center of Pertuis. The tactile terminals are installed in the former nave, at the heart of the multimedia library, giving visitors easy access to a wealth of information. They can enjoy a journey of discovery through the history of the town?s heritage and architecture, told through 3 tactile terminals dedicated to 3 major periods:
? terminal 1: 1506-1796: From the origins to the French Revolution
terminal 2: 1796-1962: From theater to department store
terminal 3: 1962-2023: From household appliance store to media library
A richly documented and illustrated approach to the evolution of this building over the centuries, revealing its many lives and uses.
